UNICEF Congratulates the Winners of WMS Global Awards for Excellence 2014
BEIJING, Oct. 30——UNICEF would like to congratulate the winners of the World Media Summit (WMS) Global Awards for Excellence 2014, which were announced on Monday, especially the prizes linked to reporting on Public Service.
“Media have an important role to play in society by reporting on social welfare issues. Coverage of issues ranging from health care to education to poverty, are a critical way to help promote and protect children and their development.” Said Shantha Bloemen, Chief of Communication & Partnership, UNICEF China. “We congratulate the dedication of the winners and all the other entrants to reporting on social and public issues. We also salute the organizers who understand the importance of acknowledging the important contribution they play to society.
Over 450 news organizations and more than 500 professionals from 138 countries and region submitted over 1,400 entries.
The WMS Global Awards for Excellence are the first comprehensive news awards covering multiple media formats, including traditional press, photography, video and integrated media. The awards are intended to be authoritative, credible and globally influential. They are open to news agencies, newspapers, TV stations and news websites around the world.
